NDIS Pathway

At the earliest point in your planning, you need to find out if you are eligible to access the NDIS
The Scheme is available to Victorians who meet the following requirements:

  • You are an Australian citizen, live in Australia and hold a permanent visa or a Protected Special Category Visa
  • You are aged under 65 when you first access the Scheme
  • You have a permanent disability that significantly affects your ability to be involved in everyday activities

People currently receiving support through the Victorian Government will move to the NDIS at different times depending on where in Victoria they live and the type of support they currently receive.

You can find out if you are eligible for NDIS funding through the NDIS Access checklist here: http://www.ndis.gov.au/ndis-access-checklist plus a useful video resource:

If you enter the NDIS, you will go through a planning process with a NDIS representative, to develop your individual NDIS plan and determine the funding you will receive.

The first step

Your first step once you access the NDIS is to create your first plan. Your first plan is the start of a lifelong relationship with the NDIS. It will include details about your personal goals and needs, details about the supports you will be funded for, and how much funding you will receive for these supports. Your first plan will give you time to think about what you might need to help you achieve your goals before you do your next plan.
Your first plan will be in place for 12 months. This will give you time to think about how those supports are working for you. Once your plan is approved, it is time to put it into action. The NDIS can work with you to help you start your plan.
